Wed 10th - Fri 12th- Arthurs Pass and a Lego man

Weds 10th June

Today we were up quite early again as we were driving over to Arthurs Pass. It's a road throught the mountains and over to the West side of the Island. We took Pete's truck and went the back way there, through shingle roads and saw some amazing views of the Canterbury Plains, they are quite dry and very vast, amazing views as we got higher into the hills. As we got closer to Arthurs Pass and the West, the scenrery completely changes, there are trees everywhere and the whole landscape is green and misty, with little waterfalls running under the road. The trees actually grow horizontally out of the mountainside! We stopped at Arthers Pass town for lunch and then carried on driving west. We came to a Viaduct, which was amazing and I have no Idea how they even started bulding it! The landscape goes steeply downhill, big mountains either side, with a river running fast down it, and a road winds right down the middle. We stopped at a lookout point to take some photos and came accross some Kea's, which are Mountain Parrots, they are really cheeky birds and started trying to pick the rubber window seals from the truck straight away! Got some nice pics of them though. We drove a little futhur and saw some more green landscape and it started to rain (as it does most of the time on the West). Definately some of the most beautiful scenery we've seen so far. We then headed back and had some more lamb chops for dinner!

Thurs 11th June

Had a chilled day. Me and Lil walked up the the pie/fudge shop at the end of the road (we had a pie and bought some fudge!). On the way back we saw a lego man tarmaced into the road - not very interesting but was quite funny to find! We also made the family a thank you card to say thanks for all the tours and food! They really have been very welcoming, felt very comfortable here, quite sad to go.

Fri 12th June

It's only morning now as I'm writing but as we're heading out tonight and I'm not sure when I'll have a computer again! The plan is, all of us are leaving and heading up to Hamner, where there are natural hot pools we can swim in. Then tomorrow if the weather is nice we might go Whale watching. Then Sunday Morning me and lil are on a Ferry and off to the North Island. It's meant to be warmer there, but it is wetter! Update you all again as soon as I can.
